A few of the systems known on the market are Carrier, Goodman, Trane, and Reem.  Of course, there are others that may work just as well but when doing research on the internet these are the names that pop up in the top ten results.  With brand name air conditioning systems you have staff that is experienced, skilled and trained to work on these brands that they install.  They are all good and depending on the air conditioning system brand name you select there will be specifications to review for your home. Sears does home services and carries brand name air conditioning systems.  They may be one of the two or three you consider since they offer repair services and financing.  You know that you need to have one that is the right size for your home and they would be able to assist you with recommendations.   The purpose of an air conditioning system is to circulate cool air through a system of supply and return ducts.  You would know them using different words unless you were in the HVAC (an acronym for "heating, ventilating and air conditioning") business.  People everyday not in the field use different words like registers or the vents in the walls or the floors.  We all know what these are and when we do upgrades or repairs in our home we normally change the vents ont he floor due to the wear and tear.  The filters need to be vacuumed and changed and if you are trying to cut down on dust buildup this is done pretty regularly.  Some of the brand systems have filters build in as an option.
